Does child sponsorship work?Is Child Sponsorship an effective way to help? The best way to change the life of a child is to change the world in which they live. By sponsoring a child, you will help to bring about long term changes in their community, which will make it a much happier and healthier place in which to grow up. Your sponsorship contributions will help fund vital development work in areas such as healthcare, and education - whatever the community needs most. This work is carried out in partnership with the local people. The most vulnerable children are selected by the community. Why do the children sometimes look healthy and happy?Like families the world over, your sponsored child’s family probably made sure their child was looking their best for the photo even if it meant they had to borrow clothes and shoes from someone else! A child’s photo doesn’t always show their needs. You may even be surprised by how well your sponsored child appears. But children don’t have to be ‘starving’ to be suffering the effects of a lack of nutritious food. You can’t always ‘see’ when a child is small for their age, malnourished or underdeveloped in some way. How does a sponsored child benefit?Cash is not sent directly to the child or their family. Although project activities have a focus on access to education and healthcare for children, the real change occurs from benefits to the whole community, particularly by enabling people to take charge of their own futures. How do I update my contact details? If you have changed your postal address, contact phone number, email address or your name please tell us. How are children chosen for sponsorship? Most sponsored children live with family members in a community or village. The most vulnerable children are selected by the community. |
Child Sponsorship in operationHow long do I sponsor a child?Child sponsorship is generally a long term commitment, up to 10 years or more. You can sponsor the same child for as long as the child remains in the sponsorship programme (often well into their teens). Once a sponsorship project meets its objectives, it's time to celebrate the many achievements - healthier children and better living conditions, educational programmes that are working and a community with greater confidence for a more positive future. Sometimes a Sponsor's circumstances change or there may be a change in the circumstances of a sponsored child in which case the period of sponsorship may be reduced. Should you be unable to temporarily or permanently make the regular sponsorship payments, please contact us. Should your child leave the area or the programme we will assist with finding another child for you to sponsor. Do I get a progress report on my sponsored child? Each year you will receive: A report on your sponsored child’s progress an photo A report on the development activities you’re helping in their community A newsletter, you will receive twice a year. Can I sponsor more than one child?Yes. You can sponsor as many children as you can afford. Many sponsors like to select a child the same age as their own child. This creates the opportunity for their child to learn through communication about the challenges of life in a developing country. A school which sponsors a child or children of the same age, can find it very interesting, learning about the children of Myanmar as they grow up in very different circumstances. |
